With that out of the way, I'll be talking about Subnautica, a game about oceans and aliens and freaky fish animals chasing you and trying to murder you friendly fish that are friendly. To begin, let me talk about the visuals. This is probably one of the most beautiful games I own, competing with Just Cause 3 (Technically don't own it, I just used to have it from a game sharing thing with a friend) and KSP (JEB IS HANDSOME).
| Screenshots don't really do this game justice and I highly recommend you go out and buy it if you have a good computer. |
The game is also extremely atmospheric. Nearly every fish is bigger than you and makes weird noises and nearly everything has a way to kill you. And your only completely safe space is in a tiny pod with no land in sight. Oh and there's also these things.
The sound design is amazing as well. Every single thing makes noises completely off of what you normally hear which just adds to the eeriness of the game. And the music for the game somehow is able to amplify the feeling of being totally alone. But none of these single aspects of the game do it justice. The charm of the game comes from hearing the noises and seeing things lurking in the depths below and being fearful of them because you don't know what they are, but knowing you have to face them in order to progress.
I reaaallly recommend this game and its probably my personal #1 game of 2018 so far. If you do end up getting it, use good headphones. It's not the same experience without them.
